Welcome,

This year, globally our clients have been sharing that instead of change being the new normal, chaos is the new normal, and the first half of the year has certainly played that out. With that in mind, our theme this month is Navigating Uncertainty and Change in the Workplace.

Did you know that 72% of workers rely on strengthened relationships with their direct managers, not senior leaders, to navigate uncertainty? This fun fact highlights how important it is for us to build relationships to help navigate uncertainty and change.

The brain science is clear: when we are stressed, our brains tend to focus on survival and ‘every person for themselves.’ When we spend time building relationships our brains move beyond survival and can collaborate with others to find new ways forward. Now is a good time to reflect on which relationships at work you choose to focus on building.

Another thing that can help us navigate uncertainty and change in the workplace is changing our mindsets. In Morgan Housell’s book, Same as Ever, the author examines what doesn’t change in a changing world. One idea is that, Everything worth pursuing comes with a little pain. The trick is not minding that it hurts.

Recently I was talking to a client whose team was going through a lot of disruption. They wished they could make the disruption easier for their team. While this is a nice sentiment, it doesn’t help the team learn and grow. Wanting things to be easier delivers short-term gain, long-term pain. Instead change the focus to growing through the challenges. This allows us to focus on the short-term pain as a driver for long-term gain.

Think of the things that have made a difference in your life. Initially most won’t have come easily. Yet, over time and with effort, you grow in your self-belief, self-confidence and skills as you took those initial hard steps. Try the reframe, Hard is what helps me to grow to the next level, and see how this helps.

Our latest video book review, Beyond Beliefs by Nir Eyal also has some great tips to help you change beliefs that may no longer be serving you.

Finally, we will be sharing other helpful resources on our social media channels to help you successfully navigate uncertainty and change in the workplace.

Until next month, stay magical.

Book Review: Beyond Beliefs by Nir Eyal

In this month's video book review, our Director of Learning Danette breaks down the amazing new book Beyond Belief by Nir Eyal.

“Behind every endeavour are beliefs that shape outcomes. Most people never question those beliefs, even when they hold them back. Beyond Belief by bestselling author Nir Eyal (Indistractable and Hooked) reveals one counterintuitive truth: these beliefs aren't facts. They're tools. Understand how they work, and you can set them aside when they are unhelpful and replace them with better ones to change what's possible for you.

Backed by the latest neuroscience and psychology research, Eyal shows you how your hidden assumptions filter what you see, what you attempt, and what you achieve, and gives you a clear, practical method to change them.”
